North Carolina Baroque Orchestra brings world-class early music to North Carolina communities
by David Williams
The North Carolina Baroque Orchestra (NCBO) is a nonprofit ensemble dedicated to performing Baroque music with historical authenticity and fostering community connections across the state. Founded in 2011, NCBO brings together professional musicians from across the United States to perform on period instruments, creating a unique and historically informed sound that transports audiences back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
NCBO performs a diverse range of Baroque repertoire, from orchestral and chamber works to large-scale vocal masterpieces. The ensemble’s mission extends beyond music; it is a catalyst for community engagement, offering performances that are accessible, educational, and collaborative. NCBO’s partnerships with local choruses, schools, and community organizations reflect its commitment to making world-class music available to all North Carolinians.
A highlight of the NCBO season is the annual Handel’s Messiah performance with the Kinston/Lenoir Community Chorus—a beloved community tradition. This year’s performance will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 7:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Kinston. The event is free to the public, made possible by generous local donations.
“NCBO is proud to be part of North Carolina’s vibrant musical community,” said director Jane Cain. “We strive to make historically informed Baroque music accessible to audiences throughout the state, while supporting local artists and singers.”
