Kinston Police arrest suspect on weapons charges

On March 31, 2025, officers from the Kinston Police Department’s B and D Squads responded to the 500 block of E. Shine Street following reports of individuals walking in the area wearing masks and carrying firearms.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with two 17-year-old male juveniles suspected of being involved. Officers additionally encountered 22-year-old Zaddie White in the area. After an initial assessment, all three individuals were allowed to leave as officers continued their investigation.

During a search of the area, officers discovered a handgun on a nearby playground. The firearm had been illegally modified with a “switch” to function as a fully automatic weapon. Further investigation determined that the firearm belonged to White. As a result, officers obtained warrants for his arrest on charges of Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction and Possession of a Machine Gun.

On April 4, 2025, officers from KPD’s A-Squad located White and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

Kinston Police Department continues to work with Juvenile Justice authorities and will seek juvenile petitions for additional charges.
