Rep. Chris Humphrey: The Hwy 58 Connector
Dear Neighbor,
Eastern North Carolina continues to move forward — and I’m proud to be working every day to make sure that progress reaches every family, student, and small business in our region.
This month, we’ve made strides on everything from protecting taxpayers and expanding broadband access to celebrating our outstanding students, educators, and first responders. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet with community partners and advance legislation that reflects our shared values of responsibility, opportunity, and service.
As always, my office is here to serve you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can be of assistance.
At your service,
Chris Humphrey
State Representative
LEGISLATIVE WEEK IN REVIEW
We had a productive week in the NC House last week — focused on protecting our communities, promoting transparency, and standing up for common-sense values.
Whether it’s making sure our schools are safe, strengthening support for veterans, or improving government efficiency, I’m proud to be part of the team that’s delivering results for the people of North Carolina.
NC TROOPERS MUSEUM
I was honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the North Carolina Troopers Association Museum last week.
This important project will preserve the proud legacy and sacrifices of our state troopers, while educating future generations about their vital role in keeping our communities safe.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to stand with those who serve and protect.
KEEPING PROPERTY TAXES LOW
I’m proud to join Representative John Blust in co-sponsoring House Bill 539, which requires counties and municipalities to adopt a revenue-neutral tax rate during property revaluation years.
This bill ensures that rising property values don’t automatically lead to higher tax bills. With Lenoir County just completing a major revaluation, this is a timely and important step to protect taxpayers and promote transparency in local budgeting.
North Carolina’s boom is something to be proud of, but it shouldn’t leave behind the people who’ve built our state. Property revaluations? They’re part of the gig. Sky-high tax bills? They don’t have to be.
Let’s work together — across party lines, across counties — to keep North Carolina growing without growing out of reach. Because prosperity should be something everyone can afford to share in. Our families, our businesses and our future are counting on it.

NC HOUSE PAGE: REAGAN GREENE
We were delighted to welcome Reagan Greene from Greene Central High School as our House Page at the NC General Assembly. It’s always encouraging to see young people take an interest in public service. Reagan gained valuable insight into the legislative process and she did a great job!
CONGRATULATING GREENE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND
It was a privilege to recognize the Greene Central High School Concert Band on the House floor. After 38 years, they returned to the state Music Performance Adjudication — and brought home a ‘Superior’ rating! A proud moment for Greene County and all of Eastern NC.

BROADBAND ACCESS IN JONES COUNTY
We’re making progress with our Broadband Expansion efforts in ENC!
I’m proud to share that 79 unserved locations in Jones County will soon gain access to high-speed fiber internet, thanks to a $308k investment through the state’s Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) program.
This is a big win for rural connectivity, telehealth, education, and job growth. We’re closing the digital divide — one community at a time.
LCC AUTOMOTIVE PROGRAM EARNS NATIONAL ACCREDITATION
Big congratulations to Lenoir Community College for earning ASE Master Accreditation for their Automotive Program!
This national recognition reflects LCC’s commitment to excellence and prepares students for high-quality, in-demand careers right here in Eastern NC. I’m proud to support workforce development that strengthens our communities!

TALKING HOMEOWNERSHIP IN EASTERN NC
It was a pleasure meeting with representatives from Habitat for Humanity and the Coastal Plains Association of Realtors.
We had meaningful conversations about the importance of safe, affordable housing and the critical role homeownership plays in strengthening families and our local economy.
I’m grateful for the work these organizations do to support Eastern North Carolina — and I’ll continue advocating for smart, fiscally responsible policies that support both homeowners and housing providers in our communities.
