The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA–Part B, Public Law 108-446) Project is presently being amended. The Project describes the special education programs that Jones County Public Schools proposes for federal funding for the 2025–2026 school year.
Interested persons are encouraged to review amendments to the Project and make comments concerning the implementation of special education under this federal program. All comments will be considered prior to submission of the amended Project to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The IDEA–Part B Project is open to the public for review and comments during the week of May 5, 2025, in the office of Laura Parks, Director of Exceptional Children and Student Services, located at 320 West Jones Street, Trenton, North Carolina 28585.
Child Find
North Carolina has a continuing Child Find procedure in place to locate all children with disabilities residing in the state, including children with disabilities attending private schools—regardless of the severity of their disability—who are in need of special education and related services.
This effort also includes highly mobile children with disabilities (such as migrant and homeless children) and children who are suspected of having a disability and needing special education, even though they are advancing from grade to grade.
The purpose of this procedure is to enhance public understanding of exceptional children and youth with special needs, to identify and locate the children and youth, and to inform the public of available services.
A local Project CHILD FIND effort is underway in the Jones County area to identify children and youth ages 3 to 21 who have disabilities and need special education and other services. For more information, contact:
