UPS Kinston facility to close Jan. 12, employees to be reassigned
The UPS facility in Kinston will permanently close on Jan. 12, according to Teamsters Local 391.
Union officials said employees at the Kinston local sort and driver facility will not be laid off and will be reassigned to UPS operations in Goldsboro, Greenville, and Havelock.
Teamsters Local 391 Vice President Doug Irving met with workers this week to address concerns related to the closure. Local 391 President Rick Armstrong said the union contract allows employees to follow their work and protects them from forced layoffs.
The closure was discussed during a change of operations meeting held Dec. 12 at the Raleigh Union Hall.
UPS has not released additional details regarding the closure.
