Salon 408 & Co continues to grow in downtown Kinston
After years of building her reputation as a nail technician, Alexis Carter turned a dream into reality by purchasing and revitalizing Salon 408 & Co in the heart of downtown Kinston.
“Before long, I became pretty booked,” Carter said. “Just a year later, the opportunity came up to buy the salon. At first, we were hesitant, but deep down I knew that’s what I really wanted, to bring the salon back to life and create a space that had something for everyone.”
In her first year of ownership, Carter and her husband, Casey, remodeled and refreshed the entire space and expanded services by partnering with additional professionals. Salon 408 & Co now offers manicures and pedicures, facials, chiropractic care, massage therapy, spray tans, a tanning bed and a children’s boutique at the front of the shop.
“I just want people to feel welcome here,” Carter said. “No matter what brings you in, I want you to feel like you’re in the right place, a space where you can come for everything and everyone’s here to help you feel your best.”
Carter works full time doing nails and is currently fully booked, but two other technicians offer regular availability for manicures and pedicures. The salon is looking to add a hairstylist, a brow specialist or other spa and beauty professionals to round out the team.
Salon 408 & Co held its grand opening on Sept. 27. The next public event is the Christmas Vendor Event on Nov. 15 from noon to 6 p.m. at The Dug Out, featuring gift certificates from salon professionals and a rack of favorites from Gigi’s Corner.
Community involvement is central to the salon’s mission. Carter credits Casey’s constant encouragement and hands-on help with making the renovation possible. “I couldn’t do any of this without my husband, Casey,” she said.
The salon also has an event space and hopes to host holiday activities, including photos with Santa. Local photographers or small businesses interested in renting the space are invited to reach out.
Salon 408 & Co is at 408 N. Herritage St., Kinston. For information, call 252-643-0550.
