The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Biscuitville

2401 N Herritage Street, Kinston 

Date: 9/05

Score: 98.5

Observations: 

Shell eggs were stored on counter and temperature of eggs increased over 45 degrees. 

Bucket of sanitizer stored directly beside opened single service containers at online order section. 

Flies present today in facility. Few dead flies seen as well. 

Employees seen handling clean equipment and food with facial hair. 

Prep table across from fryers where bottom of leg is missing needs to be replaced. 

Lenoir County Shrine Club 

1558 Hwy 70 E, Kinston

Observations: 

There are several bottles of chemicals in unlabeled bottles in the storage room. 

Slight build up present around door handles of reach in coolers and reach in fridge. 

Bojangles 

3007 N Herritage Street, Kinston 

Date: 9/04

Score: 94.5

Observations: 

Employee seen wiping her face with barehands then handling a fry basket to pull food items up out of the fryer. 

Foods in cold holding not being maintained. 

Sanitizer bucket stored under sandwich/biscuit prep area directly beside packages of sandwich buns. 

Flies seen today in back storage area. Dead and live roaches seen in facility today. 

Ice buckets with ice stored on floor in front of ice machine. Should not be stored on floor. 

Ice scoop laying flat on top of ice at front serving line. 

General cleaning is needed on shelving above hot holding area in drive thru where single service is stored to remove food debris. 

Ice scoop for big ice machine is chipping. 

Small prep cooler at drive thru area was 50-51 degrees F today, should be 41 degrees F. 

General cleaning needed inside of prep fridge. 

General floor cleaning needed under all equipment throughout facility to remove accumulated debris. 

El Nuevo Tequila

1030-A W New Bern Road, Kinston 

Date: 9/03

Score: 90

Observations: 

Provide paper towels or approved alternative for hand drying at each hand-sink. 

Observed glasses, pans, meat slicer, and ice machine visibly dirty. 

All food needs to be date marked. 

Food is not being cooled by proper methods. 

All working containers of food needs to be labeled. 

Observed several flies throughout kitchen. 

Observed several employees wearing bracelets. 

Observed pans and dishes stacked wet. 

Cooling drawers under stove not properly holding temperature and water is dripping from the top of unit. In the prep lifttop unit water is pooling at the bottom. 

Dish machine and drain boards were visibly soiled and require thorough cleaning. 

Observed build up on gaskets throughout facility, on shelving units, on outside of equipment, etc. 

Dumpster doors open and lid broken/missing. 

Observed missing ceiling tiles in storage room. Walls and ceilings need additional cleaning. Floor of walk in cooler is visibly soiled.

710 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

Employee placed closed coffee cup on prep table beside slicer upon entering for inspection. 

Ramekins, mandolin, various utensils found with dried food debris today. 

Some food not being date marked. 

All containers of food need to be labeled. 

One dead roach seen during inspection today. 

Two tea urns with tea stored on the floor of the walk in cooler. 

Head of lettuce found not wrapped in the walk in cooler during inspection. 

Single service found outside of its packaging above microwave. 

All refrigeration and freezers need to be commercial. 

Replace shelving in prep cooler across from the stove. 

Repair prep cooler lid that is peeling. 

Repair/replace rusting equipment legs on equipment in dish area. 

Replace rice warmer that is broken and no longer easily cleanable. 

Cleaning needed on shelving throughout facility. 

Employee restroom needs to be cleaned. 

Cardboard was observed stacked beside dumpster. 

Toilet seat in employee restroom needs to be repaired. Toilet paper holder needs to be replaced. 

Repairs needed to walls and ceilings. Floor cleaning needed throughout facility. Clean floor drains. 

Light shields missing on bulbs above main cooking area. Bulbs need to be replaced to reach correct intensity. 

Hood system needs to be cleaned. Floor fans need to be cleaned. 

Hasty Mart

7851 Hwy 70 W, La Grange 

Date: 8/28

Score: 92.5

Observations: 

No certified protection manager on site. 

No hand wash sign in men's restroom. 

Fly swatter handing on plexiglass guard in close proximity to lift-top refrigerator. 

Food handler does not wear a hair restraint. 

Wet wiping cloths laying on counter. 

Cutting boards need to be repaired or replaced. 

Gasket for door on walk-in is damaged. Shelving in walk-in for the storage of wieners and chili is rusty. 

Plumbing needs to be repaired. 

Door for men's restroom is not self-closing. 

There is a hole in the ceiling from what looks to be a missing vent. Ceiling tiles outside of walk-in cooler door are damaged and in need repair. 

Lighting in men's restroom is very dim and needs to be at least 20 ft. candles at 30 inches above the floor.
