Bradfest Returns to Kinston for a Third Year of Music and Community

Written by Donasia Coppedge, Greene County Early College High School student

Three years in the making and still going strong, Bradfest returns to Kinston this Saturday from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a celebration of music, art and community unity.

The annual festival, founded in honor of Brad Elmore, has become a local tradition. Organized by his close friend, Stacy Heath, the event is designed to keep Elmore’s legacy alive while showcasing local talent and creativity.

“Brad was very musically inclined and wanted better for his community,” Heath said. “So what better way to honor his legacy than with a music festival?”

Heath said the purpose of Bradfest goes beyond music. It’s about bringing people together.

“I wanted to show a sense of community,” Heath said. “You can’t have community without unity.”

Through the festival, organizers hope to reflect Elmore’s passion for music and his impact on those around him. Heath and other friends of Elmore see Bradfest as not just a memorial, but a movement to build a more connected, inspired community.

“We hope to keep it growing — bringing the funk back to Kinston,” Heath said with a smile.

Now in its third year, Bradfest continues to draw crowds from across the region, offering a lineup of local performers and artists who share in Elmore’s dream of unity through creativity.

“Art is space, music is time,” said Heath. “Brad’s legacy is still alive.”
