Help wanted: Lenoir Community College - Qualified Assistant of Basic Law Enforcement Training/Instructor
Salary range is: $48,000 - $52,000 annually
The Qualified Assistant of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET)/Instructor will assist the Director of Public Safety with the planning and development of strategies for continuing education and curriculum programs involving law enforcement training, certifications, and renewals. The Qualified Assistant of Basic Law Enforcement Training/Instructor will provide oversight, management, and support of instructors, faculty, and curricula for all law enforcement programs in collaboration with the Director of Public Safety.
The duties of the Qualified Assistant of Basic Law Enforcement Training/Instructor include, but are not limited to:
ยท Coordinate the schedule and implementation of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program in accordance with the prescribed policies and guidelines of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission
ยท Coordinate, contract, and supervise all instruction offered under the BLET Program to ensure that all modules meet the standards for quality and safety established by North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission
ยท Manage expenditures for equipment and instructional materials related to classroom, physical fitness, and situational activities required for BLET training
ยท Maintain current and up-to-date records to comply with all criminal justice standards, including state certification testing for students
ยท Participate in the development and planning of goals and objectives, policies and procedures, new courses, and in all supportive activities of the College
ยท Develop, lead, coordinate, and supervise a team of coordinators and faculty in the effort to produce and deliver quality instruction for continuing education and curriculum law enforcement courses
ยท Monitor courses and instructors and ensure that courses meet high quality standards and policy
ยท Mediate between students and faculty to facilitate the resolution of a disagreement
ยท Serve as an arbiter of disciplinary issues within the BLET Program, while collaborating with the Director of Public Safety
ยท Maintain up-to-date information on instructional materials and techniques
ยท Attend conferences and workshops that promote personal and professional growth, as well as growth of the College's law enforcement training programs
ยท Conduct instructor and faculty evaluations and the handling of employee relations issues in a timely manner
ยท Research and develop plans for new course offerings to be presented to the Dean of Public Safety
ยท Ensure continuous revenue growth needed to meet long- and short-term goals by identifying new opportunities and serving current clients
The Qualified Assistant of Basic Law Enforcement Training/Instructor may also serve as an instructor. When in this role, the QA is expected to maintain competency in the following areas:

Teaching Performance
ยท Teach a course load appropriate to the teaching discipline
ยท Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
ยท Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
ยท Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs
ยท Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, etc., when appropriate
ยท Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate student assignments
ยท Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
Evaluation of Student Learning
ยท Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
ยท Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
ยท Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
ยท Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades each semester according to established deadlines
ยท Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
Support of College Policies and Procedures
ยท Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment
ยท Teach credit or non-credit courses in the teaching discipline as needed
ยท Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation
ยท Serve as faculty academic advisor for students
ยท Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies
ยท Maintain confidentiality of student information
ยท Substitute for other instructors in the teaching discipline in case of an absence
ยท Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources
ยท Comply with responsibilities as cited in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Handbook for Distance Education, Policy Manual, and Procedures Manual
Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities
ยท Serve on college committees as assigned
ยท Participate in meetings and events as required
ยท Respond in a timely manner to requests for information
ยท Support both part-time and full-time colleagues
ยท Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development processes
ยท Participate in graduation ceremonies
ยท Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a team member

ยท Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
ยท Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in criminal justice or related field is required; bachelorโs degree or masterโs degree is preferred
ยท Must meet the minimum standards for BLET Qualified Assistant as prescribed by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission
ยท Extensive (5+ years) experience in active law enforcement is required; a background in law enforcement training and officer development is preferred
ยท Candidate must be eligible for BLET certification as prescribed by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission
ยท Must be certified in Basic Life Support CPR or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire is required
ยท Awareness of regional, national, and global trends in law enforcement
ยท Knowledge of current student learning outcomes, assessment, and curriculum techniques and methods
ยท Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
ยท Ability to work as a team member
ยท Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
ยท Knowledge of office equipment such as the computer, printer, copier, fax machine, and telephone
