Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Lenoir County to host annual plant sale

The Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Lenoir County will host their annual plant sale on April 13th from 8am – 12 noon. This is located at their greenhouse area behind the Lenoir County Cooperative Extension Office, (1791 HWY 11 55 Kinston, NC 28504.)

The Master Gardener Volunteers have worked hard over the past several months to provide the best quality plants for the sale. We have a variety of flowers (annuals & perennials), vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, squash, watermelon, etc.), and herbs (basil, parsley, cilantro, etc.). The plants will be sold primarily in 4-inch pots and 3-cell packs. Over 90% of the plant materials were produced from seed in our greenhouse, while the remaining 10% of plant material has been donated from volunteers or patrons in our community when they have “cleaned-out” their landscapes! Dividing bulbs, perennials, etc. is a great way to be able to donate plant material to the Extension Master Gardener Program.

The Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Lenoir County use the funds generated by the plant sale to aid in programming throughout the year. Several of the programs include a two-week Junior Master Gardener program in the summer. A full-crash course in horticulture is provided and the youth participants get to go on several field trips within the county, as well as to NCSU for a day trip. The EMGV participants also provide programming monthly to the LC Council on Aging, as well as working in the Native Plant Garden & Meadow, the Lenoir County Children’s Garden, and participate in community events.

The Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Lenoirs look forward to seeing you at the plant sale on April 13th! (Cash or Check ONLY.)
