Obituary: Margaret Marston Taylor Perry

Margaret was born on January 31, 1937, to Frederick M. Taylor and Margaret Marston Taylor in Kinston, NC. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 1, 2024. She knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was looking forward to and assured of her future home in heaven.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 pm at Faith Fellowship. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

She attended Kinston City Schools and graduated from Grainger High School. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in the 50s, when life was so simple and free of all the problems of today’s culture.

She graduated from Salem College and taught school in Raleigh for three years before returning to Kinston and marrying her beloved Dan in 1963. Along with him, she was active at Gordon Street Christian Church, working with youth, singing in the choir, and leading the church women. Later she became a charter member of Faith Fellowship Church, where she continued to be active.

In 1987, Margaret began leading a Bible Study in their home under Precept Ministries, which continued until 2000 when Dan became leader. After several years, they began Dr. David Jeremiah Studies and enjoyed having people in their home each Tuesday night for many years. Margaret always felt blessed to be Dan’s wife, who was such a loving husband, and she enjoyed editing the many books he wrote. God’s Word was such an important part of Margaret’s life. She had been blessed with Christian parents, and especially her mother’s influence after her father’s death when she was 10.

In their younger years, Margaret and Dan loved to travel, with good friends and with their children, not only in the USA but also several trips abroad. One of their favorites was Israel and the Holy Land. For many years, she loved watercolor painting, and enjoyed sharing her paintings with her children, extended family, and friends. She played the piano and appreciated music of “her era,” as well as classical music and great hymns. She enjoyed a cold, rainy afternoon with an open fire, a good book, and a cup of tea with a square of dark chocolate. She had an extraordinary gift for storytelling, entertaining her friends and family.

Margaret, Dan, and their children are especially grateful to the wonderful caregivers, Renarda Gant, Teresa Corbett, Adrianna Woods, Shaniya Gant, and Renita Middleton.

Margaret is survived by her husband Dan, children Elizabeth Ann Perry of Chapel Hill, Daniel E. Perry, Jr., of Kinston, Margaret Radford Altizer and son-in-law John O. Altizer of Chapel Hill, granddaughter Virginia Carolyn Pharr of Chapel Hill, brother Fred M. Taylor of Chapel Hill, sister-in-law Barbara Ruth Perry of Kinston, Goddaughter Betty Blaine Worthington of Kinston, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carolyn T. Hodges.
