Joslyn Evans Earns LCC's Academic Excellence Award 2023

Soon-to-be Lenoir Community College graduate Joslyn Evans has been selected as the College’s Academic Excellence Award recipient for 2023 and is recognized as one of the Great 58 in the North Carolina Community College System.

The award is presented annually to a currently enrolled student who demonstrates dedication to their education goals in an associate degree program and maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

A Human Services Technology/Social Services major, Evans will be graduating at the end of the summer semester. She has excelled outside the classroom as well. While at LCC, she was a member of the College’s volleyball team and was named to the Region 10 All-Academic Team for two consecutive years.

After graduation, she plans to transfer to Bluefield University in Virginia to continue her study in social work or psychology, and she plans to play volleyball. She plans to work as a counselor upon graduation.

“Sports have always been a passion of mine, as was learning,” Evans said. “I struggled to maintain above average grades in high school, but I did not let that determine how my college semesters would go once I got back into it.”

“When I moved to North Carolina, I wanted to go back to college and start learning more about my dream career as a social worker/psychologist, and the opportunity was granted to me through free tuition and best of all – volleyball,” she said.

“It’s a blessing to be able to play volleyball and continue my education, and the determination I have to make sure I do my best in both has helped me build my confidence and self-esteem along the way,” Evans said. “Times have been tough, but I always try to remind myself that within the toughest days, the most growth is attained. This helps me keep moving forward with my college degree.”
