Eastern Pregnancy Information Center announces annual Run Baby Run 5K & 1 Mile Walk 4 Life Fundraiser

The Eastern Pregnancy Information Center is excited to announce their annual Run Baby Run 5K & 1 Mile Walk 4 Life fundraiser. The event will take place on Saturday, April 8th, at 304 North Queen Street in Kinston, NC.

“This event is the most critical fundraiser for EPIC for the year! It’s a great way to get friends and family together for a great cause,” said long-time volunteer and board member Rylee Portela. “Plus it’s our 5 year fundraiser anniversary! So there will be music, a photo booth, treats, and every participant will get a special medal in their swag bag.”

The Run Baby Run 5K & 1 Mile Walk 4 Life is the organization's signature fundraiser and aims to raise the bulk of the funds the centers need to continue their mission of helping mothers in the community see the life developing in their wombs throughout the year. The participation of runners and walkers goes a long way in achieving this goal.

“We want as many participants as possible,” said Portela. “There is an in-person race and there is a virtual option for those who can’t be there on race day. Our goal is to raise $20,000, so even if people don’t want to race or can’t be there, they can still donate on the site (or sponsor a racer) to help us reach our goal! I’d also like it mentioned that sponsors of the race will get special recognition.”

Participants have the option to register for the 5K or the 1 Mile Walk 4 Life. Early bird registration prices are available until March 7th, with regular registration prices until April 7th. Late registration will also be available on the day of the event.

The 5K race will have awards for the top three overall male and female finishers and only the first-place male and female finishers in each of the nine age categories. The virtual 5K will only award medals to the first-place overall male and female finishers, who will be expected to pick up their medal and race swag at the New Bern or Kinston Center on May 1st.

All participants in the 1 Mile Walk 4 Life will receive a race T-shirt with their registration. Families who register together will also receive two adult T-shirts. Participants can either walk in Kinston or virtually and share their pictures on social media with the hashtag #1MileWalk4Life.

“As a non-profit organization, all proceeds go towards providing necessities to our clients in Lenoir and Craven county,” said Portela.

On the day of the event, registration and race packet pick-up will open at 6:30 AM, with registration closing at 7:45 AM. The 5K run will start at 8:00 AM, followed by the 1 Mile Walk 4 Life at 8:30 AM. An awards ceremony will take place at 9:30 AM in-person and on Facebook Live.

Free on-site parking is available for participants.
