Obituary: Kathleen Ward Spence

Kathleen Ward Spence, 72, of Kinston, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at UNC Lenoir Healthcare.

The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home from 5 - 7pm on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

Kathy was born to Howard and Jean Shafley Ward on April 23, 1951. Kathy had a servant’s heart and was always there to help whenever there was a need. She worked as a Developmental Technician for Caswell Center and retired after several years of service. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Kathy adored her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and loved spending countless hours taking care of them.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Horace Spence; daughter, Beth Loftin and husband Bruce; son, Jonathan Taylor and wife, Stacey; sister, Lynda Ward; stepsons, Greg Spence, Tony Spence and wife Dawn, Steve Spence and wife Misty; grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, Kassidy, Kendra, Landon, Zack, and Victoria. She is also survived by her nephews, John, Fred, and Brad.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandmother, Minnie Mae Orr; brother, Michael Ward; and her sister, Cherrie Smith.
