The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Wendy's

4535 US Hwy 70 W, Kinston

Date: 10/07

Score: 92

Observations:

Employees not washing hands properly.

Single use gloves after becoming soiled need to be discarded.

Chemicals sanitizer needs to meet concentration standards.

Employee not wearing beard guard.

Torn gasket at the cooler door under the fry hot hold station.

Walk in cooler door is in disrepair.

Debris on gaskets and equipment throughout facility.

Drain pipe under the 2-comp sink was dripping.

Broken floor tile in between prep unit and fryers.

Piggly Wiggly

604 N McLewean, Kinston

Observations:

No handwashing sign at sink in processing room.

Observed meat cuber blade with build up between the teeth.

Observed knobs to band saw and automatic wrapper machine with build up of meat and residue.

Panel on the inside cooler door needs to be reattached.

Missing light from walk-in needs to be replaced.

Piggly Wiggly Market

Some white meat trays cracked.

Equipment shall be in good repair.

Caulk on handwash sink in processing room needs to be repaired.

Hole in the wall between windows above wrapper.

Observations:

No employee handwash sign in employee bathroom.

Single use articles in sleeves on the ground in the pressing room.

Observed build up of meat residue on the inside of band saw and on the knobs.

Cross connection observed on mop sink.

Ceiling in stock room is not easily cleanable.

Galaxy Bar and Restaurant

4010 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations:

No certified food protection manager on duty.

No handwash sign in womens restroom.

Observed raw meats over ready to eat product removed from original packaging in the reach in freezer.

Observed build up on the ice machine guard.

Cheese was holding at a temperature of 51F.

Ambient temperature on on prep unit was 45F causing cold holding issues.

Gaskets torn on 1 door freezer and 2 door reach in fridge.

Grease and build up under cooking equipment.

Dirty vents in bathroom.

Food splatter on walls behind trash can on cook line.

East Coast Wings & Grill

Observations:

Several food items not date marked.

Observed dead pests in walk in cooler.

Wiping cloths need to be held in sanitizer.

Cutting board on prep unit across from fryers are heavily scored and stained.

Multiple items including gaskets, shelving, food bins, fryers, inside and outside of equipment needed cleaning.

Floors, walls, & ceilings need additional cleaning.

Observed several flies through out the facility.

Observed salads exposed to splash from condensation in reach in cooler.

Observed food on floor in walk in cooler.

Observed reach in with heavy condensation located by register.

Observed utensils in green metal basket above 3-comp facing multiple directions.

Green metal basket holding utensils at the 3-comp sink rusted.

Torn gaskets at reach in across from fryers and reach in by Drive Thru window.

Whip cream residue dried on the whip topping dispenser at drive through.

Observed debris on gaskets through out facility.

Observed hoses a mop sink resting on floor of mop area.

Small leak at right side faucet at 3-comp sink.

No paper towels at front of house hand sink.

Observed employee at chicken batter station not wearing beard guard/restraint.

Bojangles

3007 N Herritage Street, Kinston

Observations:

Observed employee drink on prep table next to par-cooked fries.

Employee did not use barrier to turn off faucet.

Can opener blade soiled.

Lemon slices need to be covered to protect from tea/coffee.

Small ice scoop at front drink station with handle resting in the ice.

Single service items on the floor in dry storage.

Cart has broken wheel.

Excess buildup on fryers, fry oil containers, chicken storage buckets, gaskets, and walk in cooler fans.

Drip at the cold handle on the left faucet at the 3-comp sink.

Walls and floor need additional cleaning.

Hand sinks need cleaning and changing station in women's restroom needs cleaning.
