Helping Cats in Need: Segal's Second Book Supports Rescue Fund

We are proud to announce Gwen W. Segal’s second book, this time for children. "Mostly True Tales from Wild Serenity" is out! In hardcopy and paperback. Order early if you want a hard copy in time for Hanukkah or Christmas. Gwen will have a booth at the Holly Jolly Show in Kinston on November 17-18, but hard copies will only be available through order on Amazon.

In this book, former K-12 educator Gwen shares stories about her cats and the other animals that live in and travel through Wild Serenity. With each story, Gwen shares more of the origins of her fur family and anecdotes about the wildlife she and her partner Nick live with on their small forest preserve, using fun and narrative poetry to tell some of the stories. There is a mix of short stories and poetry, and the book is full of beautiful, artistically rendered photo illustrations, all taken at Wild Serenity.

Ever the educator and advocate, there are facts about the animals at the end of each piece and a list of websites at the back of the book for anyone inspired to learn more. Along with information about the form of poetry and elements, Gwen has also included a readability score to help teachers and parents with the grade level at which a child should be able to read the stories on their own. The book also has two opportunities to prompt your child to be creative. Teachers can show the picture prompts and let their students add their own stories and poems to the book, or it can be a great way to personalize a gift and keepsake for your family.

“It’s cute stories with a lot of great pictures that other kids will like. I liked it!” - 8-year-old Morgan Y. from Connecticut.

“I like how it’s about animals, and the ones in the book are animals that you’ve actually seen. I like how they save kittens and give them funny and cool names, but I wish the momma hadn’t died. I LOVE the pictures!” - 8-year-old Harper S. from New York.

As with her first book, "Because of Jim," all royalties for the book go directly to the Wild Serenity Cat Rescue Fund. Gwen set up the fund to continue Jim’s legacy; he was the cat who started her on the path of authorship. Royalties and any donations to the fund are paid to organizations that do good work for companion animals in rescue, fostering, adoption, and TNR. The more books we sell, the more help we can give.

"Because of Jim (a Story of 17 Rescues in the Height of COVID)" is available on Amazon in paperback and E-form. The address will take you to Gwen’s Author page on Amazon.
