Help Wanted: Sports Editor

Neuse News is seeking a qualified sports editor to help create a new sports digital platform - Neuse News Sports. The sports editor will coordinate daily sports-related content, edit content, recruit sports freelancers, and work with local athletic directors and coaches to ensure fair news coverage.

The sports editor will:

  • Schedule coverage of sporting events for area high schools and middle schools in Lenoir County, Jones County, and Greene County, to include Lenoir Community College and Down East Wood Ducks.

  • Develop relationships with athletes and coaches to highlight their program(s) via videos and stories.

  • Post content on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram to promote our area athletic programs.

  • Help develop ideas to foster better communication and relationships with athletic directors, coaches and athletes.

  • And more.

Pay, Benefits, Hours & Other Qualifications

This is a full-time position in Kinston, NC. Nights and weekends are necessary as part of this role. Pay is dependent on qualifications. Benefits include Paid Time Off, Ten Holidays, Mileage Reimbursement, and other office perks. See our vlog “The Journey” for more.

Experience is beneficial, and a bachelor's degree in sports journalism, communications, or English is preferred. A strong understanding of sports statistics, game results, and other sports-related information is necessary. 

About Neuse News Sports

Neuse News covers Lenoir, Greene, and Jones counties in eastern NC. We are a hyper-local, digital news outlet with no AP news and no subscription fees. We have six full time employees and several part time independent contractors. Neuse News Sports is a new division that will focus on all-things sports in our coverage area. It’ll have its own website, email newsletter, and social media platforms.
