UPDATE: Kinston Police respond to shooting, two pronounced dead at the scene

UPDATE:
Officers of the Kinston Police Department were called to a shooting at 1:33 pm on the 600 block  of East Highland Avenue. Officers arrived to find two victims who were pronounced deceased  on the scene by Lenoir County EMS. Officers are actively investigating this case. The victims of  the crime were identified as Ruby Cox, 78, and Johnny Rouse, 57, both of Kinston, N.C. The  Kinston Police Department worked closely with citizens to identify the suspect, Lawrence Cox Jr,  34, of Kinston, a relative of the deceased.  

At approximately 9:30 pm, Cox was taken into custody without incident in Goldsboro, N.C. The  arrest was made by members of the Goldsboro Police Department, N.C. State Bureau of  Investigation, and the Kinston Police Department. Cox is being held in the Lenoir County Jail without bond for 2 counts of Murder. The Kinston Police Department would like the  community to know that this appeared to be an isolated incident and there is no further threat  to the community.

We will investigate such cases with no compromise for crime, and  continue to seek assistance from the community we proudly serve.
