Rachel C. Turner announces candidacy for Lenoir County Clerk of Court
Rachel C. Turner has announced her candidacy for election for Lenoir County Clerk of Court. Turner was born and raised in Kinston and began working at the Lenoir County Clerk of Court's office in 2011 as a Deputy Clerk in the criminal division. During her time there, she performed many different duties within both the Criminal and Civil divisions, which included courtroom clerk, bond forfeitures, and child support. In 2019, Turner was afforded the opportunity to continue her career at the Wayne County Clerk of Court in the Estates and Special Proceedings division where she is currently employed today. She has experience working with guardianships, foreclosures, and estates.
“For nearly eleven years, I have had the opportunity to work at both Lenoir and Wayne County Clerk of Courts Office. I feel that it is my time to fulfill a long term career goal by running for this position. Many people have asked me what I have to offer in this position. The answer is simple, for the past 11 years I have had the opportunity to work in two different Clerk of Court offices and during that time I have had the opportunity to grow and develop my job knowledge, skills, and abilities. But outside of those job skills, I have realized two very important traits that are much needed as a leader in any clerk’s office. They are being approachable and compassionate. Many times, in my career, especially while working in the Estates and Special Proceedings division, I have experienced citizens that have lost loved ones and are trying to navigate the immense amount of paperwork needed to open an estate or customers petitioning for guardianship of a family member. These individuals all have one thing in common and that is the need for someone to assist and guide them through the process without feeling as if they aren’t cared about or that they are just another customer. I want to be the one that promotes great customer service, that lets the citizens of Lenoir County know that I care about what they have going on and that I want to help make their experience better.”
In the 2022 Election, Turner will be running her campaign as an Independent Candidate.
What does this mean for the community members?
This means that she will truly be elected by the people and not by a political party. In a time when the country is more divided than ever by political lines, Turner feels that being elected to do the job based on qualifications is more important than being elected based on party affiliation.
What does this mean for Rachel?
This means that Turner will need to gather approximately 1500 signatures to be placed on the November 8th ballot. This may seem challenging to some, but Turner remains positive, and she knows this will allow her to get out and meet more people. While obtaining signatures, this will allow her to share her story and vision of what the clerk’s office should look like.
