NC Forest Service to relocate their Region 1 office

The North Carolina Forest Service has a new home for their Region 1 office.

The N.C. Forest Service had a longstanding lease at the Global TransPark in Kinston that ended December 31, 2020. Before this lease ended, the N.C. Forest Service began looking for alternate sites to establish a new regional headquarters.

“After considering numerous sites, the decision was made to relocate our Region 1 office to Kenansville in Duplin County,” said Christie Adams, Information & Education Branch, N.C. Forest Service. “Our NCFS Aviation headquarters, a separate facility from the Region 1 office, has already moved to a newly constructed hangar at the Duplin County Airport in Kenansville.”

Both of these facility relocations were determined by general statute, just as all other facility moves are. Relocation of the Region 1 office is still in the early stages of development and could be several years out.

“We have 12 full-time positions assigned to our Region 1 office, and those positions will relocate to the new Region 1 office in Duplin County once the project is completed,” said Adams. “The N.C. Forest Service also maintains  an NCFS Lenoir County office in Kinston. There are no plans to relocate that office.”
