Salvador Abrego Tinoco: Candidate for Greene County Board of Commissioners, District 4
Republican Salvador Abrego Tinoco is a 37-year-old graduate from South Lenoir High School. Originally from Seven Springs, he has been a advocate for growth and change in Greene County and would like to inject new visions and ideas to help further the quality of life of the citizens of Greene County. He’s running for the District 4 seat on the Greene County Board of Commissioners against Democrat incumbent Bennie Heath.
Tinoco believes that a lack of economic development has stifled Greene County’s growth. As a local business leader, he has seen firsthand the growth of the county. Tinoco, along with his parents, opened La Flama Mexican Restaurant the day after he graduated high school.
He is committed towards supporting policies that will move Greene county in the right direction. “For so long we have missed some great opportunities that could’ve brought good paying jobs, local economic growth and perpetual tax base,” said Tinoco.
Tinoco hopes to address what he sees as a spirit of division in Greene County. “We must cease the divisive practices, start solving problems and seizing opportunities. When I look at Greene County, I don’t see a black, white or brown Greene County... I see Greene County and I choose unity over division and hope over fear!”
Tinoco has seen budget cuts affect county employees negatively and feels this led to retention problems. Tinoco said, “We must take care of those that merit an increase to lift their morale and encourage others to follow. It’s not advantageous to hire someone, school them, train them, and then lose them to another employer.”
Another area Tinoco feels strongly about is public safety. He believes there are many areas in Greene County that need attention. Crime and dilapidated areas hinder community growth and first responders. His “Greene County First” platform also addresses using businesses from outside the county.
“Many times over, we use outside county contractors to do work for our county when we have qualified contractors to do the same work,” said Tinoco. “I believe we need to do better in keeping tax payer money in Greene County every chance possible.”
“I bring to the table fresh ideas, visions and goals for Greene County,” said Tinoco. He believes Greene County should be run like a business with short- and long-term goals, accountability and transparency.
“Let’s win this election and make history by electing the first Hispanic to ever serve in public office, in Greene County!”
