Lenoir County Public Schools to require mandatory face coverings

Lenoir County Public Schools to require mandatory face coverings

The Lenoir County Public School Board met for an emergency meeting on Monday, January 10, 2022. After the public comments were shared, a motion was made, and the vote to require masks was taken.

The motion was made by Board Member Merwyn Smith, and seconded by Board Member W.D. Anderson.

The motion was to require mandatory face coverings for all students, staff, and visitors in all indoor facilities of Lenoir County Public Schools. With the stupulation that if the school based COVID cases are less than 1% of the school based population and the community spread is less than high for a period of three consecutive weeks, then the committee would reconvene and review the metrics to revise the Lenoir County face covering policy.

The vote was passed 5-2 with Keith King and Billy Davis voting against the motion. W.D. Anderson did not vote, which automoatically gave the motion his approval.
