At the Lenoir County School Board Meeting, Board Member Keith King made a motion to make facial coverings optional at Lenoir County Public Schools. The motion was seconded by Board Member Billy Davis.

Board Member Merwyn Smith suggested an amendment to the motion by requiring visitors and anyone attending indoor sporting events to wear a mask or facial covering. That amendment passed.

The motion to make face coverings optional with its amendment was passed by the board. Beginning Tuesday, December 7th face coverings are optional for students and staff but required for visitors and anyone attending an indoor sporting event.

In addition to the change in facial covering requirements, the board announced a $1500 bonus in December and a $1500 end-of-the-year bonus for full-time employees using Federal funds.
