Fire on Albrittons Road claims one life

KINSTON — Today at 12:47 a.m., a 911 call was received that reported a structure fire was taking place at 694 Albrittons Road in Kinston. 

When responding agencies arrived at the scene, heavy fire conditions were present at the home. The 911 call reported there were five people in the home; three were able to self-evacuate the home to safety, where they were later transported to UNC Lenoir Health Care in Kinston for medical evaluation; they were treated and released from the hospital.

The other two people in the home were rescued by members of the responding agencies. One of the people was also transported to UNC Lenoir Health Care for treatment; that person’s condition is not known at this time.

The final person in the home was pronounced deceased at the scene by officials.

The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation and no further details are being released at this time. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time, until family can be notified.

The responding agencies for the incident included Sandy Bottom Volunteer Fire and Rescue; Southwood Volunteer Fire and Rescue; Deep Run Volunteer Fire and Rescue; Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and Lenoir County EMS.
