Reece Gardner: What would you do if you were the devil?

With the Covid-19 Virus hitting us so severely, and now with the onslaught of severe weather, particularly in Texas, we might tend to forget that we've endured perilous times before, such as The Civil War, two World Wars, The Great Depression, The Flu Epidemic, Etc., but the strength, faith, and fortitude of the American people has always prevailed, and will continue to do so.

However, we might sometimes find ourselves wondering if the Devil is at work among us. Radio Commentator Paul Harvey posed that question back on April 3, 1965, and it seems to be perhaps more relevant today than it was then.

So what would you do if you were the Devil? Your answer might go something like this: If I were the Devil, I would want to engulf the whole world in darkness. I'd already own a sizable portion of it, but I wouldn't be satisfied until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree, the United States of America. I'd begin with a campaign of whispers. To you, as I had whispered to Eve, I'd say, "Do as you please."

To the young I'd whisper, "The Bible is a myth, man created God instead of the other way around, and what's bad is good, and what's good is square." To the young married I'd whisper, "Work is debasing, and don't be extreme in religion, patriotism, or moral conduct."

To everyone else I'd teach too pray, to say after me, Our Farther, which art in....Washington!" Then I'd get organized. I'd educate authors on how to make lurid literature exciting so that everything else would seem dull and uninteresting. I'd peddle narcotics to whomever I could, and the rest I'd tranquilize with pills. I'd get labor unions to demand more loafing, less work, because idle hands work for the Devil.

With flattery and promises of power, I'd get various tribunals in this country to vote against God and in favor of Satanism. That way, I could evict God from the classroom, the courtroom, and the halls of Congress. If I were the Devil, I'd make the symbol of Easter, an egg, and the symbol of Christmas, a bottle. If I were the Devil, I'd take from those who have and give to those who wanted, until I had destroyed the incentive of the ambitious. Then my police state could force everyone back to work, under strict government guidelines. In other words, if I were the Devil I'd just keep on doing a lot of things that are being done in this country today, and the whole world would go to Hell...,as sure as the Devi!

Now to close on a humorous note: A teacher asks her sixth-grade class, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Little Johnny says, ""I wanna be a billionaire, going to the most expensive clubs, taking the most beautiful girl with me, giving her a very expensive car, apartment in Hawaii, a mansion in Paris, and a Jet to fly all over the world!"

The teacher, shocked and not knowing how to handle the child, decides not to linger on what he said, and to continue the lesson. "And you, Susie, what do you want to be when you grow up?" Susie immediately answers, "I wanna be Johnny's wife!"

Have a Wonderful Day!
