2021 Municipal Election Results for Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties

Listed below are the results for Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties for the 2021 Municipal Election.

Lenoir County

Incumbent Mayor Billy Ray Jackson faced off against Joseph Scott for the Mayor of Grifton. Mayor Billy Ray Jackson won the Grifton mayoral race. The Grifton Board of Commissioners had two open seats in an uncontested race. Claude Kennedy and Raymond E. Oaks, Jr. will both take those positions. The Grifton Board of Commissioners had one unexpired term ending in 2023. David C. Anderson and Jessica (Daigneault) Steelman both ran for the seat. Steelman won the seat.

Incumbent Mayor Dontario Hardy faced three challengers before retaining the Kinston mayoral seat. Mayor Pro Tem Felicia Solomon, Zac Holcomb, and Jeffery Warren also competed for that seat. There were two seats open on the Kinston City Council and six candidates. Incumbent Robert Swinson IV, Les Lipford, Michael Martin, Chris J. Suggs, James T. Sparks, Jr., and Gwendolyn Woods vied for the two open seats. Suggs and Swinson won the seats on the Kinston City Council.

In La Grange, the Board of Commissioners had three seats open. Andre’ G. Cannon, Anthony Hall, David Holmes, Veronica (Nicky) Lee, and Roger Miles campaigned for the seats. Miles, Holmes, and Hall won the seats for the La Grange Board of Commissioners.

In Pink Hill, there were two board of Commissioners seats open, but due to the untimely passing of The Honorable Carol Sykes, Mayor of the Town of Pink Hill, the current Mayor of Pink Hill is Mike Hill was also on the ballot for a commissioner seat. The other two competing for the commissioner seat were Pete Fantini, Jr. and Penny Murphy. The two commissioners for Pink Hill were Murphy and Fantini Jr.

Greene County

In Greene County, there was only one uncontested race. Incumbent Robert E. (Bobby) Taylor was running for the Hookerton Mayor Seat uncontested. Catherine B. Carraway and Doris Jones were running uncontested for the two Hookerton Town Commissioner seats.

Also in Greene County, Julian Jones, Triva S. Mason, and Henry Pasour were running for the three available seats on the Maury Sanitary Land District Board.

In Snow Hill, incumbent Mayor Dennis Liles ran unopposed for the mayoral seat. Faye E. Daniels, Michael U. Rhodes, Geraldine (Pat) Shackleford, Robert L. (Bobby) Taylor, Jr., Salvador A. Tinoco, and Rosa S. Wilkes were all vying for the open three seats for the Snow Hill Town Commissioners. The three who won the Snow Hill Town Commissioners race are Shackleford, Daniels, and Wilkes.

In Walstonburg, Incumbent Brenda Moore Haymond ran uncontested for the mayoral seat. There were five open seats for the Walstonburg Town Commissioners and Ray Holloman, Jarrod McKeel, Dianne McKeel Morris, Dana C. Suggs, and Ronald Turner all ran uncontested.

Jones County

There are no contested races in Jones County. Wayne Sayland ran for the Mayor of Maysville. Janet Baker, Cara Dunn, Myra Baker Fryar, Lisa Howard Moore, and Dan Ryan ran for the five open Maysville Commissioner seats.

Incumbent James V. Bender, Jr. ran unopposed for the Pollocksville Mayor. There were two Pollocksville Commissioner seats open and Nancy Bender Barbee and Sherry Henderson ran for it.

Incumbent Darlene Oakes Spivey ran uncontested for the Trenton Mayor seat. Rick Green, Robert Horvath, and Charles Jones ran unopposed for the three open seats for the Trenton Commissioners.
