Humphrey Seeking re-election to NC House

Humphrey Seeking re-election to NC House

Kinston, N.C. –  Last week, the General Assembly passed new district maps for Congress, NC House, and NC Senate. Not subject to the Governor’s approval, these maps are now law and will take effect for the 2022 Election. Voters across the state have been learning more about their new districts, and the candidates running to represent them.

Using decennial U.S. Census data, the General Assembly is required by the constitution to redraw districts every 10 years. The redrawn House District 12 now includes Greene and Jones counties in addition to Lenoir County, Rep. Humphrey’s hometown.

On Thursday, Representative Chris Humphrey (R-Lenoir) announced that he will seek a third term to represent District 12 in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

“Thank you to all of my friends and supporters in Greene, Jones, and Lenoir County for reaching out with your encouragement to run for re-election,” said Humphrey, “After prayer and deliberation, I’m excited to announce that we are running for re-election to serve the people of District 12 in the NC House.”

Rep. Chris Humphrey is a resident of Kinston and has represented House District 12 in the North Carolina General Assembly since elected to the seat in 2018. Humphrey was appointed by House Speaker Tim Moore to serve as Chairman of the House Insurance Committee and to serve as a committee member on Agriculture, Appropriations, Appropriations – Agriculture and Natural & Economic Resources, Energy & Public Utilities, and Health. Humphrey was appointed by Majority Leader John Bell to serve on the Disaster Relief and Mitigation working group, which resulted in an historic investment towards flood resilience in North Carolina. Additionally, Humphrey serves as a Member of the American Flood Coalition.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to receive the trust and confidence of our neighbors to serve as their voice in the state House,” said Humphrey “We still have legislative business to accomplish and a Budget to pass ahead of the next election, and I will continue to fight for Eastern North Carolina values and for the people of our community.”

This session, Humphrey co-sponsored legislation that brought a record amount of disaster relief funding to Eastern North Carolina, enhanced broadband connectivity to rural areas, supported the Aviation program at Lenoir Community College, provided resources for the NC Global TransPark and ECU Brody School of Medicine, and promoted fiscal conservatism and good governance.
