LCPS postpones all athletics indefinitely

A message from the South Lenoir High School Athletic director said, “All LCPS athletics have been postponed indefinitely.

Patrick Holmes, LCPS Public Information Officer said, “Athletics are suspended indefinitely as a result of plans to reopen school with virtual instruction and related current guidance from NCHSAA. We expect a decision regarding fall sports to be made in 2-3 weeks by the state association that will apply to the many school districts that have chosen to serve students through 100% remote learning. Our goal is to resume athletic activities as quickly and safely as possible.”

Early this week the LCPS school board voted 4-3 to reopen with a minimum of nine weeks of virtual instruction. You can read more about that here.

This is a developing story. We will update as the story unfolds.
