Lenoir County Board of Education to review plan to reopen schools in meeting July 27

A special meeting of the Lenoir County Board of Education is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 27 to discuss plans to reopen schools for the 2020-21 school year.

During the meeting, the Lenoir County Board of Education will hear from district administrators and review information from the community task force discussions and survey responses from parents, caretakers, teachers and staff on the subject of reopening school.

The information gathered is being used to develop the specifics of the hybrid plan (Plan B), which has a combination of in-person and online instruction, and to align Plan B with the plan for full-time remote learning (Plan C) that Lenoir County Public Schools has already developed.

Under any reopening plan, LCPS will offer full-time remote learning for students whose parents are more comfortable with that option.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered specifics for Plan B to reopen schools on July 14, including requiring face coverings for all K-12 students, fewer children in the classroom, measures to ensure social distancing for everyone in the building and other safety protocols. Gov. Cooper also allowed for districts to opt for fully remote education.

North Carolina schools are scheduled to start the 2020-21 school year on Aug. 17.
