Local Extension Agent receives national agricultural award

Eve Honeycutt, County Agent, Receives the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents

Eve Honeycutt received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agriculture Agents during the 2020 Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference. Honeycutt was one of several honorees who represent the top two percent of the membership selected by their peers and the Director of Extension.

Honeycutt began her career with NC Cooperative Extension in 2003. She has served as the Livestock Agent for Lenoir and Greene Counites her entire career. Her work primarily focuses on youth programs, forages, and animal waste management. One of Honeycutt’s greatest contributions is her work with the 4-H Down East Dairy Project. Through a partnership with Simply Natural Creamery and Jersey Farm, Honeycutt has built a youth program that allows local children to borrow a jersey calf heifer. The children learn about the dairy industry and learn to show their calf within 8 short weeks. Every year the program fills up quickly with 50 participants.

Honeycutt also works closely with local farmers. She provides technical services for state-regulated swine and poultry farm owners. Her classes and continuing education courses are sought after for their timeliness and important attention to detail. Additionally, she played a strong role in the recovery from Hurricane Florence by setting up supply points for donated hay and feed. These goods were distributed to local livestock owners whose animals were displaced or to those who lost their feed supply due to flooding.

Honeycutt is an excellent communicator and has built a strong database of farmers that rely on her text messages and emails to keep them abreast of important news and deadlines. She is an advocate for agriculture and enthusiastically defends those who work to feed the world. She is a strong believer in the value of Extension work and is sought after for her ability to speak about her role in the farm community. She is an excellent team player and strives to market Extension in all that she does.
