The following sanitation inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Byrd's

196 N.C. 55 South, Kinston

Score: 94

Inspection date: 5/6

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present;

Employee did not wash hands between changing tasks;

Employee handling carrots with bare hands;

Pans on drainboard that had been washed were not sanitized;

Eggs hot held at 120F - should be 135F;

Wiping cloths stored in a bucket without sanitizer;

Food Lion Deli

1304 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Inspection date: 5/7

Observations:

Bone-in chicken wings placed on wing bar were 125-132F - shall be 135F;

Salad and deli meat in display were 45F - shall be 41F or lower;

Rubber-ended tongs are hard to clean;

Observations:

Employee answered phone and handled raw chicken bowl and did not wash hands;

Back door does not close tightly;

Flies in kitchen;

Paint on back door is peeling;

Ceiling needs additional cleaning;

Lighting in restroom is not sufficient;

Utensils, plates, stainless dishes were visibly dirty;

Food in reach-in refrigerator on line was 48-54F, air temp was 52F - food shall be 41F or below;

Ribs thawing in standing water - water shall be running over ribs during thawing;

Wet wiping cloths laying on prep tables;

Dry food bins, inside refrigeration unit and shelving need additional cleaning;

Grease spilled in dumpster area is clogging the drain;

Some cracked tiles;

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present;

Raw eggs, raw meat and ready-to-eat food stored together;

Microwave and toaster need additional cleaning;

Chili was being reheated in the steam well, which is only to be used for hot holding;

Foods in reach-in were reading 42-43F - shall be 41F or below;

Excessive flies present in kitchen;

Wet wiping cloths left on counter;

Ice cream scoop stored in stainless steel bowl of water - shall be stored in dipper well;

Bologna in reach-in marked 5/2/19 - can only be held for seven days;

Ready-to-eat food not date marked;
