Gregory Daniels, Greene Central, track and field

Daniels made the most of his first trip to the NCHSAA 2A championships May 17 in Greensboro. The junior finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 6.75 inches.

One place he would like to travel to: Los Angeles

His favorite part of the state championships: enjoying the environment while being cheered on by his peers and coaches

Ele Wooten, Arendell Parrott, soccer

Wooten had a pair of shutouts last week to help the Patriots win their first NCISAA championship in school history. The eighth-grader had 11 saves in a 3-0 victory over Forsyth Country Day May 14 in the NCISAA semifinals, then followed with 17 in a 2-0 victory against Carolina Day in the title game Saturday.

One place she would like to travel to: Italy

Her favorite part of the state championships: seeing everyone coming out to support the team
