Lenoir County restaurant inspections for Feb. 15 through March 4

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Canteen Kinston Catering

1257 Enterprise Blvd., Kinston

Score: 99

Inspection date: 2/15

Observations:

Employee drink on dish table without lid;

Wet wiping cloth laying on table and stored in soapy water - shall be stored in sanitizer;

Thermometer was dirty due to being stored in dirty sheath;

Dos Marias Grill and Cantina

131 South Caswell Street, La Grange

Score: 96.5

Inspection date: 2/20

Observations:

Raw sausage chicken stored above raw steak in prep unit - stack raw meats according  to final cook temperatures;

One rice pan was 120F - shall be at or above 135F;

Wooden crate under ice machine needs coat of paint or polyurethane to keep it smooth and easily cleanable or replaced;

Ceiling tiles above water heater need to be replaced and floor and ceiling in restroom in kitchen needs repair;

East Coast Wings and Grill

3021 North Herritage Street, Kinston

Score: 90

Inspection date: 2/22

Observations:

Hand sink did not have hand towels;

Plates, sauce bottles, slicer and some food bins were visibly dirty;

A couple of food temperatures were above 41F - shall be held at or below 41F;

Popper dip in reach-in was made on 2/10 - shall be sold or discarded within seven days;

Live and dead roaches observed - repeat violation;

Dishes were stacked wet - let dishes air dry before stacking;

Some knife handles lids and pans were burnt making them not smooth and easily cleanable;

Chest freezer in back is not approved;

Ice machine flap, ceiling vents, shelving, prep tables, shelves, inside of refrigeration units and outside of equipment need additional cleaning - repeat violation;

Mop sink/can was is full of cigarette butts;

Dumpster door left open - needs to be closed;

Floors, walls and ceiling need additional cleaning;

Light shield in dish area is broken - needs to be replaced;

Olympian

601 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Inspection date: 2/25

Observations:

Cutting boards and stainless dish were visibly dirty;

Some food temperatures were above 41 F but less than 45F;

Meat sauce from Thursday was not date marked;

Chicken salad in prep unit made on 2/16;

Raw wood shelf in walk-in and rusty shelving need to be repaired/replaced;

Vents above three-compartment sink need additional cleaning - repeat violation;

Baseboard beside/below three-compartment sink needs repair;

Ceiling tiles throughout facility and floor in back room need additional cleaning - repeat violation;

Sugar Hill Pizzeria

211 North Herritage Street, Kinston

Score: 97.5

Inspection date: 2/26

Observations:

Pizza sauce, salad and some shredded cheese was above 45F - shall be at or below 41F;

Wet wiping cloths laying on counter shall be stored in sanitizer;

Gaskets on glass door reach-in are tearing - need to be replaced;

Outside or refrigeration equipment and flap in ice machine needs additional cleaning;

Sandpiper Seafood

7877 U.S. 70 West, La Grange

Score: 95.5

Inspection date: 2/27

Observations:

Some plates, bowls and stainless trays were visibly dirty;

Some foods cold holding were above 41F - shall be at or below 41F;

Fish that had been thawed was above 41F - ensure that it does not exceed 41F;

Flies in kitchen;

Rusty walk-in door and prep unit door need to be repaired/replaced, as does rusty shelving;

Ceiling needs additional cleaning above fryers;

Quick N Chicken

802 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Score: 92

Inspection date: 2/28

Observations:

Employee returned to kitchen from taking out trash and began cleaning dishes without washing hands;

Rice cooked the night before in walk-in was 50-62F - shall be cooled from 135F to 70F within two hours and 70F to 41F within four hours - repeat violation;

Several food temperatures throughout facility were 42-45F - shall be at or below 45F;

One thermometer read 34F in ice water - shall be calibrated to 32F;

Fly strips stored above clean dishes;

Shelving, inside/outside of equipment, vents throughout the facility, grill area, prep top area and ice machine needs additional cleaning - repeat violation;

Floors, walls, ceiling need additional cleaning - repeat violation;

Taco Bell

700 East New Bern Road, Kinston

Score: 96

Inspection date: 3/4

Observations:

Several stainless pans were visibly dirty;

Dishes were stacked wet - let them air dry before stacking - repeat violation;

Take-out trays stored exposed to splash and splatter from dirty dishes;

Prep table, bottom of reach-in freezer, quesadilla iron and outsides of equipment need additional cleaning - repeat violation;

Dumpster is missing door;

Floor of walk-in needs additional cleaning;

Hood lights only come in periodically;
