Farmer's Market Update - 3/16/2019

What's at the Farmer's Market?

We are still waiting for strawberries and asparagus to ripen. The market will open as soon as these two crops are ripe and ready. Meanwhile, Rodney, the pork skin man, will be in his booth selling pork skins, pork rinds and fried peanuts on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. If you are on the Keto Diet, these snacks are meant for you. They are also delicious with oysters, crumbled on baked potatoes and on salads.

Upcoming events at the Farmer's Market

Mark your calendars for the master Gardner’s annual $1.00 plant sale April 19 and 20, Friday afternoon from 1 until 4. Saturday morning from 8 until 1 . Master Gardeners Annual $1.00 plant sale All sales will be from the greenhouse at the Extension Office this year.

Shown above is a plant with strawberry flowers in bloom. It takes approximately 30 days for the flower to become a berry. This, of course, depends on the weather. The best temperature is 70 to 80 degrees, with the night temperature ranging between 60 and 65 degrees. They need at least 8 hours of sunlight a day. SO...from now on it's just a waiting game, with the prediction, at this point, to have berries around the first weekend of April.
