The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:


Quick & Chicken

802 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Score: 95

Inspection date: 10/14

Observations:

No comprehensive employee health policy in place;

Dispensers on top of prep shelf need additional cleaning;

Microwave needs additional cleaning;

Cooked chicken not date marked;

Small canisters on prep shelf and in back room are not labeled;

Flies, one dead roach and one small bug seen;

Personal employee food stored with food for customers;

Wet wiping cloths lying around kitchen;

Portioning bowl in prep unit does not have a handle and is stored in food;

Dishes were stacked wet;

Shelving, sides and tops of equipment/bottom of reach-in, plastic storage container in dish room and outside of storage containers need additional cleaning;

Hand-wash sinks in kitchen need additional cleaning;

Floors (especially behind equipment) and walls need additional cleaning;

Inspection date: 10/15

Observations:

No violations noted during inspection; green beans at 46F left out to take temperature - tray moved to refrigerator to cool;

Canteen Kinston Catering

Enterprise Boulevard, Kinston

Score: 99.5

Inspection date: 10/22

Observations:

Few scoops have not been cleaned thoroughly;

Slicing gloves stored against wall in slicer/sink area;

Plastic/vinyl aprons hanging on air-drying/clean utensil shelving - shall be clean if stored in this location;

No drain plug in cardboard dumpster - shall be provided;

No splash guard provided between produce prep sink and slicer;

Jessie Bell’s

Observations:

Mac and cheese in reach-in had incorrect date;

Aloe burn lotion stored above food prep area;

Metal cart, air-drying shelves, dry food storage bins and vents need additional cleaning;

Bead of caulk along splash guard between hand sink and three-compartment sink needs to be smoothed out to keep it easily cleanable; holes in walls and cracked wall tiles need to be repaired;

Lily’s Pizza & Subs

2423 North Herritage Street, Kinston

Inspection date: 10/31

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present;

Employee adjusts pants and hat prior to scooping ice;

Chicken wings partially cooked to test brand new fryer; immediately continued cook process to cook to above 165F; do not partially cook food without discussing with health department;

Spaghetti noodles cooling at room temperature are 101F - shall be cooled from 135-70F actively within two hours and then from 70-41F in four more hours;

Lasagna cooked last night in reach-in is 44F in the middle and 41F on the outside - is this a cold-holding issue or a cooling issue?

Solution of sanitizer that stores wiping cloths is less than 50ppm chlorine - immediately remade;

Commode in men’s restroom is soiled;

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present;

Microwave needs additional cleaning;

Foods in walk-in refrigerator were above 41F - shall be 41F or below;

Chicken salad from last night temped 46F - use proper cooling methods;

Dish machine does not properly dispense sanitizer;

Sugar and floor canisters need additional cleaning;

Observations:

No certified food protection manager - shall be present during all operating hours;

Raw hamburger in prep unit temped 51F - shall be 41F or below;

Manager and employee were wearing watches - no jewelry is allowed on the hands/wrists except for a single plain wedding band;

Wiping cloths were being held in sanitizer that was not strong enough;

Floor below window beside prep unit needs additional cleaning;

Inspection date: 11/7

Observations:

No certified food protection manager - must be present at all times;

Flour and sugar containers not labeled;

Wiping cloths stored in sanitizer that was not strong enough;

Handles of scoops are touching food - store so that handle is not touching food;

Inside of drawers needs additional cleaning;

Dumpster lid is damaged;

Observations:

Consumer advisory is posted by print is not large enough;

Raw meats and raw shell eggs stored above ready-to-eat foods;

Tomatoes, cheese and slaw temped above 41F - shall be 41F or below;

Bottom of reach-in across from hood sink is rusty;

Walls in barbecue pit have peeling paint; floors, walls and ceilings shall be clean and in good repair;

Observations:

Box of raw chicken stored on top of a keg of beer;

Shelving above prep unit had crumbs; bottom of small reach-in freezer had food crumbs;
