Holiday events in Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties

With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season upon us, it can be hard to navigate the many holiday events in our local area. Whether you are in Jones, Lenoir, or Greene county, we have Christmas activities that will put you in the holiday spirit. All non-profits are encouraged to use WeReport Neuse News Facebook Group (www.wereportneusenews.com) to promote their event.

Jones County

Maysville

Join Maysville First Baptist and the Town of Maysville for the 4th Annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting on Main Street!! There will be FREE live music, hot chocolate, apple cider, and Christmas treats. Park at First Baptist for a fun hayride to the event. Hayrides begin at 3:00 pm.

Pollocksville

Pollocksville Rotary Club is sponsoring Christmas on Main in partnership with the Filling Station. They will use the Filling Station campus to kick off the Christmas season on December 7 from 5 pm-8 pm. The Rotary Club will serve food and there will also be S’mores and a visit from Santa.

Trenton

Downtown Christmas in Trenton will be held on December 1st. Sidewalk shopping downtown - 3 pm-6 pm. Christmas parade - 4 pm. Live Nativity Scene - 5:30 pm-7:00 pm at Brock Mill Pond.

Free trolley rides are available to and from town hall to the Millpond. Once you arrive at the Millpond you can enjoy some caroling, view the live nativity scene, and tour the mill house. You may visit the “Christmas in Trenton” Facebook page for more detailed information.

Kinston

Historical Christmas Tour

Experience Christmas in Lenoir County in 1861, 1862, 1864, and 1865 through a guided tour inside the museum. See what the holiday season was like in the field with the soldiers, onboard ship with sailors, and on the home front. This is an Evening Theater ticketed program. Families will be able to make decorations in the lobby for a tabletop tree while they are waiting to be taken on tour. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 3-12 years. Tickets are timed and tours of approx. 20 people will begin every 15 minutes from 6 pm to 8 pm. Guided Christmas Tour lasts approximately ½ hour. Christmas Open House

Harmony Hall (Lenoir County Historical Association)

Free admission Historical Harmony Hall Museum, located at 109 E. King St. Kinston, will host Christmas Open House on 12/8/19, 2-4 pm.

Historical Harmony Hall Museum, located at 109 E. King St. Kinston, will host Christmas Open House on Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 2-4 PM. The Master Gardeners of Lenoir County, Dirt Daubers Garden Club, and Lenoir County Cooperative Extension Service will have the oldest house in Kinston, decorated in a typical modest fashion of its historical period for Christmas. Light refreshments will be severed. A bake sale and raffle will be conducted. In addition, there will be living history demonstrations set up around the house and families can make a Christmas ornament to take home.

Let’s celebrate the season’s greetings with our annual city event...

Many merry winter games, sledding, Christmas karaoke, photo opportunities with a whole cast of winter characters including Santa and storytime with Mrs. Clause, face painting, & more befitting of the most wonderful time of the year! Family-friendly, bring all your relatives! It is just the right time of year to bring everyone together. The entrance costs a canned food item, a slightly used coat, or a small donation. Those who pay the admission cost will be entered in a raffle for a basket of winter goodies.

Participating merchants will create special events in their businesses for your downtown enjoyment at our many locally-owned businesses. Also, part of exploring downtown includes public social media voting for the top holiday windows displays. Don't miss out on the Cookie Crawl – bags decorated by The Boys and Girls Club.

This year we are happy to announce that after years of a morning parade, our Christmas parade in downtown Kinston, NC returns to the more magical hours of late afternoon/early evening so as to create a more spectacular and memorable parade. This year’s theme is Light the Night. Therefore, we are encouraging participants to be creative with lights on floats and costumes.

It takes place right after the parade. Most likely at around 6 pm. Occurring at Pearson Park (Gordon and Mitchell Street) this includes the lighting of our giant Christmas tree and other surprises. This is going to be a very special day in downtown Kinston.

Neuse Regional Library ‘Night of Joy’

Town of Hookerton

The Town of Hookerton will host the 24th Annual Tree Lighting Festival and Parade. Enjoy music, performances, carriage rides, and a visit with Santa. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys4Tots or a non-perishable food item for Greene County Interfaith, and receive a door prize ticket. Drawings will be held at 8:00 p.m. One lucky girl and one lucky boy will take home a Brand New Bicycle!!! Don't miss this evening of wholesome family fun. Vendors will be on-site for those who wish to do some Christmas shopping. See you there!!!
