Kinston Fire & Rescue has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to enhance its disaster preparedness capabilities. The funding will be used to purchase equipment for the department’s water rescue team, improving its readiness and response during tropical weather and other emergencies.

Robert Lonn Hood, Jr. died on Nov. 20, 2024, at McGregor Down Health Center in Greenville, N.C., after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 60. No service is planned at this time.

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. On Fridays, these students are presented with an award and are congratulated for their hard work.
