Thomas Allen Meeks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on July 29th, 2024 in Kinston. In honor of Thomas Allen Meeks' extraordinary life, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Meeks home, 3009 Tacoma Drive, on Friday August 2nd from 4-6 p.m., where friends, family and loved ones are invited to gather and share memories of this remarkable man.

CMS approves North Carolina’s Medical Debt Relief Incentive Program

Millions of low- and middle- income North Carolinians are one step closer to medical debt relief. The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved on Friday, July 26 Governor Roy Cooper and the NC Department of Health and Human Services’ plan to use the state's Medicaid program to incentivize hospitals to relieve more than a decade of existing medical debt for eligible North Carolinians and prevent accumulation of new debt going forward.

Mike Parker: Parker family reunion comes to Kinston

At the beginning of July, members of the extended Parker family converged on Kinston for our biennial Parker Family Reunion. When John, my brother, and I were growing up, our huge family gathered at a city park in Roanoke, Virginia, for what was then the Parker-Brown Reunion. That reunion was named for the descendants of my great-grandparents, Peter Parker and Judia Brown Parker.
