Pursuant to G.S. 115C-518 and 160A-269, the Lenoir County Board of Education hereby gives notice that it has received an offer to purchase the Teacher’s Memorial School property owned by the Lenoir County Board of Education. The offer to purchase is in the amount of Three Hundred Nineteen Thousand Dollars ($319,000.00). Notice is hereby given that prior to January 2, 2024, at 4:00 PM, any person may raise the bid by not less than ten percent (10%) of the first one thousand dollars ($1000) and five percent (5%) of the remainder ($318,000). Therefore, the lowest acceptable upset bid is Three Hundred Thirty-Five Thousand Dollars ($335,000.00).

Janice Faye Westbrook, 82, of Deep Run passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at UNC Lenoir Healthcare in Kinston. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at Garner Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Richard Parker officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Westview Cemetery.

The Christmas season is perhaps my favorite time of year. I love the music, the special holiday foods with their delicious aromas, the brightly decorated Christmas trees, and the candles adorning windows. Some yards come to life with the lights of Christmas.
Christmas in the 1950s-1960s was magical for me in downtown Kinston, North Carolina. They called it, “The Magic Mile.” This was before malls and shopping centers. Downtown included everything! Each store went all out to decorate more elaborately than their neighbor.
