In an era where youth knowledge and involvement in the political system is vital to the health of our country, students at the Lenoir County Early College High School had the opportunity to vote for their Student Government representation in a way that mirrored the process and rigor of municipal, state and federal elections.
Mrs. Lindsey’s Child Care Marked 8-Year Anniversary with Special Event
Mrs. Lindsey’s Child Care, located at 3157 HWY 258 N, celebrated its 8th anniversary on Thursday, September 14th. Lindsey Whitley, the Owner and Administrator of the facility, had organized an all-day event for the occasion. The celebration was attended by the entire staff, along with the children enrolled at the center.

Pursuant to G.S. 115C-518 and 160A-269, the Lenoir County Board of Education hereby gives notice that it has received an offer to purchase the Teacher’s Memorial School property owned by the Lenoir County Board of Education. The property’s street address is 500 Marcella Drive Kinston, NC 28501. The offer to purchase is in the amount of One Hundred Forty Thousand Dollars ($140,000.00). Notice is hereby given that prior to September 18, 2023, at 4:00 PM, any person may raise the bid by not less than ten percent (10%) of the first one thousand dollars ($1000) and five percent (5%) of the remainder ($139,000). Mary Hester Stanley, 88, of Kinston passed away on September 13, 2023 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Visitation will be Sunday, September 17, 2023 beginning at 2:00 pm, with funeral services following at 3:00 pm at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Deaver Family Cemetery, Deep Run, NC.

Autumn Changes at the Pink Hill Public Library
Autumn will be arriving in the approaching weeks and the Etta Jones Turner Public Library (Pink Hill Public Library) is ready. Joseph John Forkl, III, 73 of Kinston passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. A Memorial Service will be conducted Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 1pm at Faith Lutheran Church, 709 W. Vernon Ave., Kinston, NC.

Veterans Roundtable: Commemorating POW/MIA Recognition Day
On January 7, 1970, Lt. Commander Michael George Hoff was shot down and disappeared while on a mission with Attack Squadron 86 near North Vietnam. A year later, his wife, Mary Helen Hoff, a member of the National League of Families, recognized there needed to be a symbol to remember the missing and prisoners of war in Vietnam.
