Kinston Police Department: Robinson Cold Case
On Sunday, August 23, 2015, just prior to 9:30 pm, Kaneesha Robinson was walking on Hyman Avenue with friends when a vehicle drove by and an unknown person shot out of the vehicle, striking and killing Kaneesha Robinson. Investigators do not believe Kaneesha Robinson was the intended target of the shooting. Kaneesha Robinson was 23 years old when she was murdered.

Snow Hill Primary announces Terrific Kids
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. Automotive Systems Technology Students Ja’ken Bynum of Kinston, Travis Cox of Kinston, and Mark Wente of Beulaville were recently awarded Gearwrench tool sets, donated by Walker Auto Parts in Kinston, for having the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) and best overall attendance during their pursuit of the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Automotive Systems Technology.

Cooper vetoed House Bill 605: 2022 Primary Date
"This bill is an additional attempt by Republican legislators to control the election timeline and undermine the voting process. The constitutionality of congressional and legislative districts is now in the hands of the North Carolina Supreme Court and the Court should have the opportunity to decide how much time is needed to ensure that our elections are constitutional."

Scam Alert: LCSO and others report phone scam
The Lenoir County Sheriffs Office and the Lenoir County Volunteer Firefighters Association have posted scam alerts on their Facebook Pages to alert residents of a phone scam.
Update: Shooting/Murder Investigation
An arrest has been made in the shooting that occurred last night on the 500 block of Mitchell St. Malik Dyshaun Bryant, 24, of Kinston NC was arrested and charged an open count of murder and two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder. Mr. Bryant was confined to the Lenoir County Detention Center under no bond.
Obituary: Dr. Charles Yarbrough, Sr.
Kinston-Dr. Charles Yarbrough, Sr. passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022. A service to honor Charles’s life will be held at Gordon Street Christian Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022. The family will greet friends briefly before the service, from 12:30-1:00.

Governor Cooper encourages eligible businesses to apply for business Recovery Grant Program
Governor Roy Cooper and Department of Revenue Secretary Ronald Penny joined business leaders to provide an update on the Business Recovery Grant Program and encouraged local businesses to apply. These grants are part of North Carolina’s efforts to support businesses as they recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadline to apply for the program is January 31, 2022.
