Local educator receives $10,000 scholarship
Christel Carlyle has received the Zora Ellis Scholarship from The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. The Honor Society for women educators promotes excellence in education and personal and professional growth of women educators. By providing graduate scholarships to members, the organization emphasizes leadership development for its more than 50,000 members in 17 countries.

Correspondence from across the country helps Northwest kindergartners fill in a map of the USA
The kindergarten students at Northwest Elementary could color the state in on their map of the USA – if only they had a postcard or letter from someone who lives there. The littlest state is also – as of Thursday morning – the last, the missing piece in the students’ quest to collect a mailing from a resident of each of the 50 states, a project that aims to teach them about the geography of the country and some interesting facts behind each state name.
LCPS All-County Band concert wraps up Arts in the School Month on Saturday
Kinston High trumpeter Devin Hayes is heading to Fayetteville State University on a full-ride music scholarship, but before the senior says goodbye to high school he’ll say hello again – for the fourth time in as many years – to the LCPS All-County Band.
AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary 1111 Supports Veterans with Handmade Blankets
The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 1111 of Kinston North Carolina recently visited House of Morgan, a local artisan that creates pewter jewelry and household items. Amanda Morgan Co-Owner provided a tour of the workshop and explained the history behind pewter making within the Morgan family. Auxiliary members were able to observe the steps it takes from design to pouring the molds to casting the items to polishing the final products before packing them to be sold.
Two Lenoir County jail employees arrested for smuggling drugs to inmates
Two people have been arrested by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office for illegally providing drugs to inmates at the Lenoir County Jail.
Town of La Grange Names New Assistant Town Manager
The Town of La Grange is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Seaberg as its new Assistant Town Manager. Mr. Seaberg, a highly accomplished public administrator and urban planner, will officially begin his service with the Town on March 26, 2025.
Big Lots given second chance in Kinston
After a period of uncertainty and closure, Big Lots is officially reopening its Kinston location at 2407 N. Herritage St., according to store manager Leo Lockhart. The discount retailer, which closed temporarily amid the company’s financial challenges, is back in business and actively hiring.
Kinston Police Arrest Three in Fraud Case Involving Stolen Checks
Kinston, NC – The Kinston Police Department (KPD) has been actively investigating a fraud case involving stolen checks from Blizzard Walls Inc. The suspects in this case forged and deposited the stolen checks, leading to multiple arrests.
Update: Kinston police arrest suspect in Airport Road shooting
UPDATE: On March 25, 2025, members of the Kinston Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT) and A-Squad, with assistance from the Department of Adult Corrections, successfully took Jamarion Gray into custody.
Three Lenoir County Students Selected for North Carolina Governor’s School 2025
Lenoir County Public Schools is proud to announce that three of its outstanding students have been selected to attend the North Carolina Governor’s School for the summer of 2025. This esteemed program, established in 1963, is the oldest of its kind in the nation and offers a unique, enriching experience for intellectually gifted high school students.

Greene County Board of Education announces Rodney McNeill as next Superintendent
Snow Hill – The Greene County Board of Education has voted to appoint Dr. Rodney McNeill as the next superintendent of Greene County Schools, effective July 1, 2025. This decision follows the announcement of current superintendent Dr. Creech’s retirement, shared with the board on February 24, 2025. Dr. Creech has served Greene County Schools in various leadership roles since 2014 and has led the district as superintendent since 2022.

SNOW HILL — A video of the Greene Central High School band celebrating a historic victory at the North Carolina Bandmasters Association (NCBA) Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) has gone viral, racking up over 5 million views and more than 778,000 likes on social media.
Mike Parker: 2nd annual ‘Spirit of Lenoir’ Festival set for April 12
Nothing warms the heart and stirs the soul like gathering with friends, family, and neighbors for a night of faith-filled music under the stars. The 2nd Annual Spirit of Lenoir Christian Music Festival will be held on Saturday, April 12 at Pearson Park in Kinston.
