Gun charges filed in two separate incidents overnight

On January 16, 2025, at approximately 9:44 PM, officers from B-Squad conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Stadium Drive and Charlotte Avenue. The driver, identified as Montez Nelson, 44, of Kinston, became uncooperative and refused to follow officer commands. After officers removed Nelson from the vehicle, a search uncovered a firearm, drug paraphernalia, and cocaine.

Lenoir County couple charged with arson, insurance fraud and other related charges

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrests of a Lenoir County couple on a total of eight arson and fraud related charges. Monteze Rodriguez Nelson, 44, and Jalesia Madrid Nelson, 33, both of 1609 George Ave., Kinston, were each charged with second degree arson, felony conspiracy, insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense. All eight charges are felonies.

Tragic fire claims one life in pollocksville

Pollocksville, NC - On Saturday, January 11, 2025, at approximately 8:26 AM, multiple emergency agencies responded to a devastating structure fire in Pollocksville. Despite the dedicated efforts of first responders, one individual tragically lost their life in the incident. The other individual was taken to Carolina East Medical Center and transferred to UNC Chapel Hill to receive medical treatment for their injuries sustained.
