On August 9, 2024, KPD's A-Squad, KPD’s Investigation Division, and Kinston Fire & Rescue responded to a residence on Queens Road after receiving a report of an attempted arson. A witness reported that Tykeem Trotman, a 34-year-old Kinston resident, poured fire accelerant and lit cigarettes inside the house in an attempt to start a fire.
According to the National Weather Service, “Debby is finally lifting away from the area today but the heavy rain threat will continue to bring a threat of flash flooding through the weekend, especially with already saturated soils. Several rivers have risen to flood stage or will reach flood stage shortly. “

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office is in pursuit of a man who shot another man in the hand this morning at Brown’s Plant and Seeds on Hwy 258 North this morning.
On August 3, 2024, KPD officers conducted a traffic stop on NC HWY 11 involving Joshua Farmer (37, of Lenoir County) for a vehicle equipment violation. With the help of K9 Nero, officers discovered methamphetamine and various drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Farmer was arrested without incident and placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond.
