The following is a summary of an incident that took place on July 18th regarding a short video that went viral on social media regarding a Kinston Police Officer arresting a lady for refusing to provide her driver’s license. The incident has been reviewed by our agency’s Internal Affairs Division and the Chief of Police.
On April 4, 2024, officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to Smithfield Chicken & BBQ following a report of larceny involving Haley Walton, a 32-year-old resident of Jacksonville, NC. Walton, who was the manager of the restaurant, allegedly failed to make bank deposits.
On July 1, 2024, SECU reported that 24-year-old Brandon Tripp of Lenoir County had deposited 24 fraudulent checks via mobile deposit. The Kinston Police Department's Investigation Division initiated an investigation into the matter.
On June 16, 2024, SECU reported that 19-year-old Jailyn Cannon of Kinston had deposited 16 fraudulent checks via mobile deposit. The Kinston Police Department's Investigation Division initiated an investigation into the matter.
On July 30, 2024, at 10:00 pm, the Kinston Police Department's C-Squad responded to an armed robbery report at the Dollar Tree located at 4151 W Vernon Avenue.
An arrest has been made in the case of Matthew Neal of Pink Hill and 11 dogs are now in protective custody.

Addison Canady, a young angler from the area, made waves at the Third Annual Big Rock Kids Tournament held from July 10-13, 2024.
