RALEIGH – The North Carolina Turnpike Authority was alerted that a text message-based scam, also known as smishing, is fraudulently claiming to represent tolling agencies from across the country. The scammers are claiming to represent the tolling agency and requesting payment for unpaid tolls.

Badcock Home Furniture & More announced the closure of its Kinston store as part of a broader plan to shutter 35 locations nationwide. This move comes after Conn’s HomePlus, which acquired Badcock in December 2023, decided to close 71 of its own showrooms. The popular local eatery Peach House is set to expand with a second location at Lenoir Crossing, near the hospital in Kinston. The current location at 412 W. Vernon Avenue will close tomorrow, July 25, 2024, as the business prepares to transition to the new site.
On Tuesday, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office received a narcotics complaint from the public. Sheriff Jackie Rogers led an investigation — along with the Street Crimes and Rapid Response (SCARR) team and deputies from B Shift — at 3719 N.C. 58 South in Kinston. The investigation ended in the arrest of five individuals with numerous charges.
A 67-year-old Kinston man was arrested today on felony possession of stolen property in a case that started two weeks ago.
