The Bucklesberry farm community does not hold a registered trademark on its name, unusual as it is. And it certainly is not the first to have this name. Not so unique, there are a number of places in North Carolina and across the pond (England) with variations of the same name, including "Buckleberry," "Bucklebury," "Bucklersbury," "Bucklesbury," and "Bucklesberie."
The City of Kinston is excited to announce the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony celebrating the opening of the Downtown Kinston Social District. The event will take place Wednesday, July 3rd, at 11:00 AM. The event will take place at the corner of W. North and N. Queen Street, with remarks by elected officials followed by the ribbon cutting at 11:15 AM.

The Golden LEAF Foundation announced that 215 rural North Carolina students were selected to receive up to a $14,000 Golden LEAF Scholarship, including seven in Lenoir County and one in Greene County.
Western Carolina University congratulates more than 1,000 students named to the Spring 2024 Dean's List. To qualify for this honor, students must achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher while completing 12 or more credit hours. The following local students made this semester Dean's List:
School of Rock The Musical is based on the Paramount movie written by Mike White with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. This electric show follows the journey of Dewey Finn, a down-on-his-luck musician who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school.
The Lenoir County Farmer’s Market is located at 100 North Heritage Street. The market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm. Most vendors accept EBT and Sunbucks, plus major credit cards.

Local artist Creed Piel is set to unveil his new studio on July 4, featuring a unique collection of high-angle photographs of well-known Kinston locations. The event, which Piel describes as a “pig picking type 4th of July event,” will be held at 112 W Gordon St, the former site of the H Stadium children’s department.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of David Ward Heath, 76, of 209 S. Croom Bland Road, Kinston, NC. Heath was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

State, federal and local officials broke ground Tuesday on a North Carolina Global TransPark complex that the U.S. Navy will use to maintain and repair Navy and Marine Corps aircraft.
Officials said the U.S. Navy’s Fleet Readiness Center East, C-130 Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul complex will create more than 400 new jobs and generate $400 million in new investment for the region. The facility will expand the existing Fleet Readiness Center East, which is at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock and is the state’s largest employer east of Interstate 95.
