High speed chase went from Kinston to Greene County
KPD Officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit that started in the city of Kinston and went to Greene County. It involved members of the Kinston Police Department, Lenoir County Sheriffs Office, Greene County Sheriffs Office, Snow Hill Police Department, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Northeast teacher wins national award for reading instruction
Lindsay Elks, a fourth-grade teacher at Northeast Elementary School, is the North Carolina winner of the Read 180 Educator of the Year award presented by the learning technology company HMH and is among a select group of 22 teachers honored nationally.
Kinston man receives 11-18 years in prison for crack cocaine distribution
In December of 2022, KPD's Violent Crime Action Team began a drug investigation related to the distribution of crack cocaine by Rodney Meadows (37 of Kinston). The investigation led to Meadows being charged with 34 felonies. On June 14, 2024 Meadows pled guilty in Lenoir County Superior court and received 11-18 years in prison.
Truck and trailer stolen from Pink Hill; Suspect arrested after chase and crash
A 20-year-old Hertford man was arrested earlier this week after a felony larceny of a truck and trailer from a Pink Hill farm resulted in a chase and a crash in Richlands.
Greene County Manager FY 2024-2025 Budget
The Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget for Greene County is available on the Greene County website. The budget, balanced with a tax rate of $.786 per $100 valuation, emphasizes conservative growth and strategic investments.

Lenoir County Manager Proposed FY 2024-2025 Budget
Lenoir County Manager Michael S. James has presented the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Recommended Budget to Chairman Linda Rouse-Sutton and the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners. The budget aligns with the county’s Strategic Plan, focusing on improving operations, addressing challenges, making strategic investments, and maintaining financial stability.

The Lenoir County Farmer’s Market is located at 100 North Heritage Street. The market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm. Most vendors accept EBT and Sunbucks, plus major credit cards.
Kinston City Manager Proposed FY 2024-2025 Budget
City Manager Rhonda Barwick has submitted the proposed Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget to the Kinston City Council. The balanced budget, amounting to $120,803,423, does not require an increase in the property tax rate or the use of fund balance.
