Princeville, N.C. – Kinston native and award-winning film director Resita Cox and her team return to Princeville this summer to host their third annual Freedom Hill Youth Media Camp (FHYMC). Applications are open April 15 - May 31, 2024 for students 14 to 19 years old to apply.

18-Year-Old Charged with Attempted Murder of 15-Year-Old
An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged with a February shooting of a 15-year-old juvenile in La Grange.
LCPS statement on the accidental death
The loss of a student is always tragic. Our first thoughts are for the family of Za’Dok Clark and LCPS extends to them our heartfelt sympathy. The LCPS crisis management team is at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School today to provide additional counseling and support services for students and staff members and will be there as long as needed.
Snow Hill Primary Names Teacher of the Year
Snow HIll - Snow Hill Primary recently named 1st Grade Teacher, Margaret D’Jernes as this year’s Teacher of the Year. She graduated in 2017 and joined the staff at SHP immediately following. She shared that she completed her clinical teaching experiences at SHP and fell in love with the community so as soon as she had a chance she wanted to return to Snow Hill.
Greene Central inducts new members in the National Technical Honor Society
Snow Hill - The Greene Central High School National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) chapter inducted 64 new members on Thursday, April 11th at a ceremony in the Greene Central High School gymnasium. Membership in the National Technical Honor Society is highly selective and based on academic achievement, character, leadership, and dedication to the pursuit of excellence in a specific career or technical field.

Downtown Kinston Revitalization adopted from the City a downtown lot at the corner of W. North and Mitchell Streets to install a memorial garden in honor of Ms. Shirley Herring who had dedicated herself to beautifying downtown Kinston.
Boy, 12, dies from gunshot wound
A 12-year-old boy has died due to a gunshot wound; the incident happened on the 2600 block of Dean Drive in Kinston a few minutes before 7 p.m. today. The incident is currently under investigation by the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office.
Erin Greene of Northwest Elementary honored as LCPS Teacher of the Year
Erin Greene, the third-grade teacher at Northwest Elementary School who was a finalist for the state’s Beginning Teacher of the Year award in 2019, moved higher in the echelon of educators Tuesday night when she was named LCPS Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025.

Snow HIll - Greene County Pre-K Center recently named Sarah Joyner as this year’s Teacher at Greene County Pre-K. Joyner is a proud graduate of Greene Central High School and a Snow Hill native. She did her post-high school studies at the University of Mount Olive with a degree in Birth-Kindergarten Education.

Tragic fall: Kinston Police investigate death of elderly woman
On Tuesday April, 16, 2024 at 12:13 p.m., the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of a subject falling from a building on the 100 blk of E. Peyton Ave. Upon arrival, officers along with Fire-EMS personnel located a 76 year old female deceased on the west side of the building. This case is still under investigation, however there is no indication of homicide at this time.
