Monroe Magic, managed by sisters Laura and Carla Monroe, is one of the newest businesses in downtown Kinston, located at 408 N Heritage Street. The notary and soon-to-be FedEx center offer services such as notary signings, faxing, and printing production on yard signs, posters, and banners.
Law Enforcement and RADD collaborate for Project Safe and Sound
On June 3rd, Raising Awareness for the Developmentally Disabled (RADD) will host a charity event. RADD is an organization that provides social and recreational activities to disabled individuals and their families. They also provide resources, advocacy, as well as education pieces for families.

APA Dance Ensembles Perform at NC Showcase
Congratulations to APA Upper and Middle School Dance Ensembles who performed their state champion ensemble pieces as part of the NC Showcase in Greensboro on May 13th. The Showcase celebrated NC’s top educators, administrators, and schools featuring performances by State Champions in Fine Arts from across the state.
Restored Hope Boutique Grand Opening
On Wednesday, Restored Hope Boutique had its grand opening. The boutique, located at 124 N Queen St., is a part of Hope Restorations. The grand opening started with a tour of the House of Hope for Women then the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at the boutique afterward.
City Council approves animal control interlocal agreement, noise ordinance amendment, and 4-way stop
In a recent Kinston City Council meeting, several important agenda items were discussed and approved. The council addressed various matters, including the authorization of an interlocal agreement for animal control services, an amendment to the noise ordinance, and a request for a four-way stop at the intersection of Mitchell St. and North St.
Habitat for Humanity Goldsboro Wayne Informational Sessions
Habitat for Humanity Goldsboro Wayne will be holding two informational sessions on May 18th from 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and on May 23 from 5:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. The sessions will be held at the Kinston Neuse Regional Library, Auditorium A. The sessions will provide residents with the necessary information to apply for homeownership with Habitat.
Logan Mozingo Initiated into Omicron Delta Kappa
Logan Mozingo, a native of Kinston, was recently initiated into the East Carolina University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The Society welcomed 1,869 new initiates from 78 universities during April 2023.
Growing Together: EMGV Association Cultivates Partnerships in Lenoir County
On March 25th Lenoir County Master Gardener Association (EMGV) and members of the Southeastern Native Plant Society gathered for a workday at our Native Plant Garden and Meadow located at the CSS Neuse Replica. EMGV Karen Mulcahy directed the group to remove invasive plants and freshen up the area for the spring.

For those who missed it, the Trash Trap being proposed for the Adkin Branch is very promising. Samantha Krop, Sound River’s Riverkeeper for the Neuse River Basin, shared exciting information about a new device to keep clean the Adkin Branch yesterday, Wednesday, May 10, at Holloway Recreation Center. The Adkin Branch is an important tributary of the Neuse River.
Mike Parker: Soil and Water Conservation award winners honored
I attended the Annual Education Celebration of the Lenoir Soil and Water Conservation District for the second year. The celebration took place on May 9 at the Cunningham Research Station.
